John Criswick (Founder & CEO)
With a BASC in Electrical Engineering and an MSC in Quantum Mechanics, John is not your typical entrepreneur. Recognizing the need for mobile phone connectivity to the Internet, John founded Beduin Communications and built one of the first Java-based cell phone browsers. After Beduin was purchased by Sun Microsystems in 1998 he founded Rove Inc., to deliver enterprise systems administration to handhelds. He then founded Magmic Games in 2002 to concentrate on the emerging market of mobile game development and publishing. John is an industry visionary who shapes Magmic’s future direction through a unique mix of deep technical knowledge combined with a keen sense of the dynamics of the mobile entertainment market.
Joshua Ostrowalker (Founder & CTO)
Joshua was one of the first members of the Java Research and Development team at Corel Corp. He joined Beduin Communications in 1998 to develop a personal information manager as part of a suite of applications for Java-enabled devices. After Sun Microsystems’ acquisition of Beduin, Joshua worked on the team building an XHTML Basic browser and MIDP 2.0. At Magmic Joshua leads a team of world-class software engineers producing sophisticated mobile application development tools and next-generation mobile entertainment applications.
Mohammed Agha (President & COO)
Hailing from the days of feature phone games, where he was porting J2ME games to over 500 different devices a week, Mohammad has been involved with mobile games from the infancy of the industry. Mohammad has worked on over 50 mobile games; many of them large brands. He has coded, designed, project managed, and produced games over his broad career. Now responsible for managing Magmic’s talented, Mobile Game veteran team, Mo is responsible for executing the Magmic Strategy and Vision.
Simon Vendette (VP, Games)
Simon has been involved with mobile games since the early days of the industry. After designing top selling titles on feature phone, he jumped on the smartphone bandwagon in the early days. He created and designed the Modern Combat IP, which ranked #1 Top Grossing App in more than 75 countries and spawned multiple sequels. Simon also embraced the freemium model from its infancy. He built the creative division at a brand new studio in Toronto where he directed the design of various freemium games including Dungeon Hunter 3, UNO & Friends, and Fashion Icon. Simon is passionate about game design, game theory, player behavior and psychology. His ability to mix creative vision and business skills make him an expert in monetization, retention, engagement, and social. As Director of Freemium, Simon oversees the development of all our freemium titles and assures there competitiveness. His mission is to act as a mentor to promote and teach the digital culture of Freemium. He manages the game designer and product manager teams and works closely with the marketing department.
Lee Atkinson (Director, Creative)
For over 30 years Lee has acted as President of KLA Visual Productions, a company that produces animation for broadcast and interactive applications, with his partner and wife Kathi Atkinson. Some of his most recent clients include Subway Canada, The Backdraft Corporation, The Museum of Science and Technology, Fun Bag Animation, March Entertainment, The Canada Safety Council, Nexus Graphics, Interactivist Learning Solutions, Amberwood Entertainment, and the Family Channel. Lee heads the team of talented artists at Magmic, offering extensive experience to create a unified player experience across all game titles.
Wes Tam (Director, Client Development)
Wes Tam is a veteran video game professional focusing on action and strategy AAA content for touch and handheld platforms. He possesses both a strong technical aptitude and creative intuition. His passion for the industry is often described as relentless. Over his career, Wes has deep experience across the gamut of game production responsibilities. Notable titles he has worked on include Star Wars Rebels: Recon Missions, He-Man – The Most Powerful Game In The Universe, X-Men Days Of Future Past, Phase 10 Mobile and Daytona USA. Wes is team oriented and a quality-driven leader with creative direction, technical, workflow, design and UX expertise. He possess versatility with ability to translate objectives into actionable plans while providing decisive leadership to multi-functional teams. He has experience with starting up, running and growing small-sized game studios with track record of maximizing team performance. He has a consistent track record for driving high quality product to market across multiple genres, targeting core and mid-core demographics. He has a proven ability to pitch, adept understanding and intuition of fandom focused entertainment IPs and ability to speak to IPs brands from both a fandom and pragmatic perspective. With over 20 titles shipped and 14 years experience, his experience and skills include strong vision, game design and deep technical background with hands-on-contribute to all facets of the video game production including level design, tools, engine game programming, game design, business planning, economy balancing, testing, production management, and creative direction. Wes holds a Computer Science (BCS) degree from Carleton University.
Jonathan Simon (Director, Marketing)
With 10+ years of experience working in digital entertainment and an MBA from the University of Ottawa, Jonathan brings a mix of creativity, organization, and digital marketing knowledge to Magmic. Jonathan leads the marketing team, responsible for marketing strategy, brand management, content marketing, cross-promotion, user acquisition and ad monetization for all of Magmic’s mobile entertainment products.
